Understanding Christian Yoga

Yoga was initially created in India more than 5,000 years ago as a way to establish total well-being physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. The popular postures and breathing techniques are only a small part of yoga practice. The ultimate goal of yoga has always been to for participants to develop better self-awareness and fulfillment. Every yoga experience is different depending on the individual and their current mental, spiritual, and physical state. Today, more than 20 million people practice yoga in the United States. In recent years, yoga has seen tremendous increase in popularity and that number is only predicted to grow.

While some look at yoga as a Hindu or Buddhist religion, the truth is that it’s not. Yoga is a powerful way to deepen your connection with a higher-being and gain control of your mind.

Many believe that Christians should not practice yoga and that those who choose to do so are worshiping Buddha. Christian yoga was created so participants could benefit from the well-being techniques of traditional yoga while strengthening their relationship with God and practicing Christian values.
