Together in the Great Co-mmission
Christian Yoga Project is a Christian yoga studio located in Westminster MD, a short drive from south-central Pennsylvania and neighboring Manchester MD. We guide individuals that want to embrace or spread God’s Word through yoga instruction. Offering classes as well as 200 hour teacher training, we can help you find the more you are looking for.
Co-founders, Carrie and David Hoff, may have found their calling in Christian Yoga accidentally, but today it is a guiding light in their lives.
Suffering from migraines, bulged discs, a bone spur, and a herniated disc, Carrie had tried numerous prescriptions that failed her. After multiple office visits, one doctor uncovered that everything stemmed from chronic stress and her ability to not let go physically or mentally. By storing worries, concern, and stress internally, Carrie was hindering her ability to live life to its fullest. On a journey to take better care of herself mentally, spiritually, and physically, Carrie gave yoga a chance.
Carrie quickly noticed the change that yoga had on her life - both physically and mentally. She decided to take her 200 hour teaching training and become a licensed yoga instructor. Today she is 200-E-RYT, 500-RYT certified through Om My Yoga Academy in Harrisburg, PA and has additional 200hr and 300hr continuing education through a Christ-centered teacher training.
Surprisingly, David’s background is in law enforcement. Serving as a State Trooper from the late eighties to early 2000’s and finishing his career as a supervisor on the S.T.A.T.E. Team. (SWAT) before he retired on medical disability. Today, he is a Polygraph Examiner for the Department of Public Safety, Intelligence and Investigative Division.
In early 2014, Carrie introduced him to Yoga which opened up a whole new world for him. After embracing yoga and experiencing the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits, David also decided to embark on his 200 hour teaching training. He will be the first to tell you, that he is not flexible and some poses are not possible because of the titanium hardware in his back and shoulder. But, yoga still works for him, and that is what makes the practice valuable - each participant can personalize it to their own abilities.
“Therefore, whether you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God.”
1 Corinthians 10:31
“Carrie’s teaching style is grace-filled, with a helpful balance of accepting where each person is in their practice and inviting growth. She thoughtfully integrates her Christian faith with the practice in a way that invites connection with God, but never forcing it. Through her teaching I often experience the mat as “holy ground” where my body, mind and spirit become one with God."
Reverend LaDonna, serving Pastor at St. David’s Lutheran
